Webmaster

Webmaster

2.Responsible for the implementation and administration of a World Wide Web Site.
www.jobview.monster.com/webmaster-job-Houston-Tx-US
this website includes three job openings for a webmaster job opening
for The Right Step Company, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and Screen Teck Inc

I only found three job openings, which is not much. The pay was ok but could of been more.
The health benefits were good too. Well with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo the job opening was for a non charitable profit organization.

I knew what a webmaster did. I was curious as to how much they made and what their qualifications were for the job opening. I don't think I would want to purse a webmaster job. I like to work with children. Maybe teaching middle school kids how to web design would be a better position.

Peripherals, Accessories and Software

For the finishing touches on my computer I would need:

Mouse
Keyboard
Speakers and Sound Card
Printers
Internal Optical drive
External Storage
Probably Gaming accessories

This list will help my computing needs. I will most definently need a keyboard, so I can type anything that deals with words or numbers. A mouse to help me select for my shopping, work, designing, and whatever I am doing on the computer. Speakers so I can have adequate sound. Not sure if I really need gaming accessories but it wouldn't hurt. The list of items will put the finishing touches on my computer. I'm sure there could be more but I really don't need a over the top computer.

Video Card and Display

The computer that I chose that best meets my need is the Inspiron 580S and Studio XPs 8100.

1. What video card is included in the technical specifications?
a. Integrated Intel graphics Media Accelerator HD
b. nVIDIA GeForce, G310 512 MB DDR3

2. What options do they have for display?
No options

3. What are the difference between the two options?
The Studio XPs 8100 is more for photo enhancing and projects.

4. What screen size and resolution and video capabilities do you need? Why?
a. no display
b. Integrated 18,5" wLCD, 16:9 Aspect Ratio, WXGA (1366x768)

5. Which option did you select?
Probably the studio xps 8100. The display is plenty big enough. I do not need anything bigger. This computer had a succifient amount of memory, the hard drive is plenty big enough and the display is really nice. I would be happy with it. I would like to purchase this computer.

Internal And External Ports

The 580S from Dell has several ports. Which consist of:

Front Ports
USB 2.0 (2)
Headphone connector
Microphone Connector

Rear Ports
Microphone connector
Line in Connector
Line Out Connector
Multimedia Card Reader
Memory Stick PRO
Multimedia Card Micro
Memory Stick DUO
Memory Stick PRO DUO
Smart Media Card
XD Picture Card
Micro Drive

These days computers come with USB ports. The ports are used for many reasons. I use three of my ports daily. One for my mercury stick for my Internet, one for my printer and one for my flash drive. I also connect my phone and camera often. There are other ports on the computer that are located in the back.

Ram Options

1. What options do you have?
a.2GB Dual Channel DDR2-SDRAM at 800MHz-2DIMM
b.2GB " " DDR3 ' " 1066MHz "
c.4GB Dual Cahnnel DDR3 - SDRAM at 800 MHz - 4DIMM

2. What are the differences between the options?
Three have 3GB and two have 4GB

3. Whats the highest recommended RAM requirements?
256MB RAM the Microsoft Office Student 2007

4. Which option are you going to select?
I would probably pick the 4GB. Personally 4GB is plenty of Ram for my computer usage. Its a little more than I need But it should last me a while.

5. How does that help make your computer a "Goldilocks" computer for you?
Just right, I only use my computer for home and school use. Having more RAM will allow me to do a lot more.

Hard Drive options

First I chose the Desktops that best meet my needs.

1. What options do you have?
a. 250 GB-7200RPM-SATA Hard drive
b. 320GB-Serial SATA Hard drive (7200 RPM) with Data Burst cache
c. 320 GB-Serial SATA Hard drive (7200 RPM) with Data Burst cache
d. 320 GB-7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s.16MB cache
e. 320 GB_7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s.16MB cache

2. What were the differences between the options?
Two were added with data burst cache and two have 26MB cache.

3. What were the storage requirements?
500MHz-RAM 256MB-HD 1.5GB

4. Which option are you going to select?
I would probably choose the 320GB-7200RPM SATA-3.0Gb/s 16MB cache Hard Drive

5. Why do you only need the included hard drive option and not need one of the upgrade option?
I'm pretty sure this hard drive is plenty bug enough for all that I do. I only use my computer for home and school.

6. How does that help your computer a "Goldilocks" computer for you?
Just right, I'm not good with computers. Having a computer with sufficient space will allow me to run the programs I want and my computer won't freeze. This is Goldilocks enough for me.

Computer Processor I am Choosing

The options at Dell.com were:

Design Operating System
Personalize----$85 Windows 7 Premium ------Included
Black ----------Included Professional---------------$130
Ice Blue--------$40 Premium w/extra transfer cable----$30
Promise Pink----$40

Microsoft Office 2007 Core
Trial Version--------Included i3-330m------Included
Hame and Student 2007-----$119

Front Side
1066 MHz--------Included

The highest recommended processor speed was Intel COre i3-330m. I think I am ok with the processor that comes witht the laptop. As I personalized it, Dell did not say If I needed to upgrade. This Laptop has plenty of space, as for the memory, hard drive, the processor and the front side, all are just what I need. I am only using the Laptop for home and School purposes. If I ran my own business then maybe I would need to upgrade.

Explaning the Basic Computer Configuration that Meet my Needs

According to Dell.com, I would need a USSF Form Factor. I really do not need a specific size or shape . However, I did find a new Inspiron Zino HD. It's a new mini desktop computer. The desktop would meet my needs but I would prefer a Laptop, only because I can take it were ever I need to. As I looked through Dell.com I did find a Laptop that I really liked. The Inspiron 14 (1464), has pretty much everything I need. 4GB Memory, 250 GB Hard Drive, camera, DVD Player, Windows 7, and the new Intel Core i3. The memory I defiantly need because I really can't do a lot with less memory. Also, the Hard Drive is bigger.

Email Platform that Meets my Needs

I am currently using ATT email solution, that is linked to Yahoo. Honestly, I am using ATT because they gave me a good deal on my Internet service. I really don't use the links that come on the ATT home page. I know that I would need online access, storage space, spam protection, virus protection, POP3/SMTP/Client access, email forwarding, mobile access and tools and just about all that are on the list. Usually the email is free when you have the Internet service or access to one. I have used in the past AOL, Comcast and Google. Preferably I pick comcast. Comcast had every feature you needed. The AOL and Google are good but Comacst I liked better. It was east to use and I liked all its features.

Social Networking Tools That Best Meet My Needs

Communicating with friends and family are why I how and why I use social networking. I use Facebook at www.facebook.com, Myspace at www.myspace.com and Twitter at www.twitter.com. I have a lot of friends and family that use Facebook. I try to use Facebook alomost everyday, twitter often and Myspace seldom. There are many networking applications like, Bebos and Linkedin that are mostly used in North America. You definitely need to know the cost, if it's free or not, photo sharing, video sharing and storage space. Some social networks were created to keep in contact with friends. I like to meet some of my old friends. It's nice to see how they've changed over the years. I'm fine with facebook for now, but I guess when a new popular social network pops up then I'm going to have to change, if my friends change.

Web Filter Solution

I know I probably need a web filter. I let my 12 year old niece on my laptop for school purposes only. A web filter will block her from sites that are inappropriate.

Web filter Solutions

1. K-9 Web Protection
Free
Microsoft Windows, 2000, XP, Vista,as well as Mac OS 10.4.7 and Higher

2. Web Titan
Free 30 day trial/ after is $850.oo for small home business
Windows Xp, Vista and 7

3. Acronis Internet Security 2010
$59.99
Windows XP, Vista and 7

I think I would pick the K-9 Web Protection. It's free and seemed to cover more areas than the others listed. This software just protects the basic home Internet and this is what I have.

Spyware and Malware

Honestly, I have never heard of a web filter before. So I am hoping by the end of this assignment I will have an idea of what a web filter is.

List of five different Spyware/Malware detection and removal tool

1. Windows Defender
Free
Windows server 2003 service pack 1 and 2, windows XP service pack 2

2. Lavasoft Ad-Aware
Free Download
Windows 7, Vista, XP, and 2000 Pro

3. Trend Micro Anti Virus and Anti Spyware 2009

Windows and Vista

4. Webroot
Anti Virus Spysweeper
$59.95
Windows 7, XP, Vista

5. Lavasoft Adware Spyware Pro
$39.95
Windows 7, Vista, XP and Pro

I think I would pick the Windows Defender. It's free and I like free. Honestly I can't tell you why I picked Windows Defender. I pretty sure all these brands are good. It's something about "Windows" that I like. As long as it does what it's suppose to then I am ok with using this software. If someone else told me that and software was better then I would probably use a different one.

McAfee Virus Protection Toal Protection

I have selected the Norton Anti Virus 2010 for $19.99. I know Norton I a popular brand and it's half off. I always like saving money when possible. I am always using the internet and I'm sure Norton will protect me from viruses that will harm my computer. I had norton for a short while, came with the computer, but after the trial ran out I never comtinued with it. My other options do meet my computer needs but I am familiar with Norton.

Which Windows OS you believe best meets your personal computing needs

Currently on my computer I have Windows Vista. I have see Windows 7 and really liked it. I use Windows XP at work. So I am familiar with the three programs. I would think these would be ok for my computer. Well since I am familiar with Vista and changing from XP, I would perfer Vista. Only because I ok with working with Windows 7. Well I like when I am on the internet and I can open many tabs of websites, but with Vista you can't do that. I just use my computer for basic home needs. I don't need an advanced operating system. Well I do know that when you purchase a new computer, they come with Windows 7. It's a little more advanced that Windows Vista. I'm surin a couple more years another operating system will come out.

"The Good, the Bad & the Ugly"

Good Source
Last semester I had to research about Animal Cruelty to Dogs, for an essay. I received a lot of information from www.aspca.org. The URL ended in .org so from reading the link, Evaluating Website, It tells me this is a non-profit organization. There are many sites to answering questions about animals, but one in particular was the animal cruelty tab. There are several ways to keep up the ASPCA, many people became fans on facebook and twitter. So far the ASPCA has 262,896 Fans were several responses from previous experiences they had from the ASPCA.

Bad Source
One source I found did have some good information in it but not what I needed, www.theginblog.com is a blog about artist who use dogs for their work. Some people see it as abuse as to were the artist see it as art. This website did not give help me at all when I researched it. Many people left negative responses on the blog, they felt that what these artist are doing was abuse to these animals. I'm sure there are better resources than this one. It did not help me at all.

Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction part 2

Does this impact your opinion of Wikipedia?
No, I still stand by on what I said. I believe Wikipedia is a good source to use on certain topics. I read the first two articles. Nobody is prfect and everyone makes mistkaes. Of course you learn by them and end up making your final decision even better. Britanica and wikipedia are both good sources to use.

All the news that's fit to "print"

How many internet users are there in the world?
340,831,831 according to www.internetworldstats.com

Who is allowed to publish information via internet?
RSS XML file according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki.rss

A lot of people, now are relying on the inernet for many things. Just about anybody can publish information on the internet as along as you know what you are doing.

Wikipedia: Fact of Fiction part1

In my opinion I believe Wikipedia is a valuable source to a certain extent. If I was researching something about Jefferson Thomas then I would use Wikipedia, but if i researched something about the color of Jefferson Thomas hair then I would have to research somewhere else. When I am searching for a certain topic, wikipedia sometimes help me and sometimes not. I think it's good to use wikipedia for research in my classes just as long as I don't copy word for word.

How I Use Technology and Computers

I use a computer at home, work and for school. I have access to Windows Vista and XP. At one time I did have and iphone, I learned a lot of stuff on that. I am always wanting to learn new ways on how I can improve the way I use a computer. I often visit the same sites, such as facebook. I really do not know to much about the hardware but software I am pretty familiar with. I could try to learn how to maintain the hardware and software. I really wish I knew how to upgrade my harddrvie and add more RAM to my computer, I could really use an upgrade. I do allow my sister to use my computer but very seldom. Majority of the time I am using it. My sister is very clueless when it comes to operating a computer.

Computer Literacy, Revisted

Well when I Googled Computer Literacy there were many definitions. Two where, the knowledge and the ability to use computers and it is an essential skill. I do know I have the knowledge and the ability to use a computer. I believe my first answer was maybe somewhat accurate but if there was a test about the parts of a computer I dont think I would do too well. As for now I am ok with knowing what I know about computers, I know learning more would benefit me in the future.

Computer Literacy, First Impressions

Well as for knowing how computer literate I am, I would rate myself a 8 with 10 being the highest. I pretty much now the basic operation of a computer, but when it comes to fixing a computer, FORGET IT. I know to install software, use the internet, type on word, use powerpoint, make spreadsheets on excel and just basically the smiple programs. I do know a couple of people that are extremely computer literate. One person I know, when I got a virus on my computer, he completely cleaned it off and when I got it back it was basically brand new.
